What it is
BIRO is a writing instrument you speak to. Prose goes to the sheet; BIRO's name goes to BIRO. Say the name and a soft two-note chirp answers instantly — you were heard. Your spoken instruction appears in a speech bubble, not as ink, because speech wears speech and ink wears ink. Then the secretary mind does what you asked: a deterministic edit, chosen by operations and anchors, not by improvisation.
Why it isn't on this website
BIRO is local-first by constitution. Your words never leave your machine to be someone else's inventory. A web version of BIRO would be a beautiful piece of paper with no pen. This page is its story; the instrument lives where the writer lives.
What runs today
- Push-to-talk sheet in the browser, Comic Sounds font, served over the home LAN to iPad and iPhone
- Local speech recognition (faster-whisper, small.en) — silence emits nothing; the "Thank" ghost is a named and defeated enemy
- A living lexicon for invented proper nouns: BIRO, Dramaton, Droog, Vashon, SPIF
- The secretary mind with its patch protocol — edits as deterministic operations
- Addressing by name, acknowledgment chirp, "to BIRO" speech bubble, conversational-speed deliberation
What's next
- Zoom to the current writing or the current selection — settable; split view when they diverge
- First Contact: you don't install BIRO, you meet it
- Modality modules — any input the Grip can offer becomes text: voice, switch, gaze, and answers to the hard questions (how does a blind Mage use BIRO? how do you write with no voice?)
